A relaxation massage uses classic swedish techniques using light to medium pressure with the intent to relax the client. A therapeutic massage is generally used for a specific focus or ailment that the client is dealing with. Throughout the treament more advanced techniques may be used such as deep tissue or trigger point work. A client will typically visit the therapist more frequently for the first few weeks or months. Its important for the client to understand that when dealing with a chronic issue, it may take more time to heal.
TMJ is a symdrome used to describe temporomandibular disorders which are a result of problems with the jaw, the jaw joint and surrounding facial muscles. TMJ can be triggered by clicking/grinding of teeth, clenching of teeth or any form of teeth extractions/dental work.
Symptoms can include painful jaw movements, clicking, and headaches. Massage therapy can address TMJ by working outside the mouth (chewing muscles, and face muscles) as well inside the mouth using protective gloves. Massage therapy should be focused toward the reduction of tension in the chewing muscles, releasing tension in the face, and elimination of trigger points.
Sport massage is applied through pre-event, post-event, and training massage that is used primarily on-site at an event or at health care clinic. Sports massage can help prevent muscle and tendon injuries, reduce strain of overtraining and enables the athlete to recover quicker from injury.
Pre-event: stimulates circulation, calms nervous tension, and prepares the athlete for optimal performance while reducing the chances of injury
Post-Event: helps in recovery from hard training and competition
Training Massage: focuses on the prevention of developing chronic injuries and aids in the healing process of current ones.
Local teams, clubs and individual athletes can benefit from sport massage therapy.
